Although most people are typically diagnosed as children, Type 1
diabetes affects those in all age ranges.
To stay alive, those with Type 1
diabetes must take six or more insulin injections daily.
In addition, there are many challenging roadblocks preventing Type 1
diabetics from living a normal life. Many struggle to obtain basic medication and medical attention needed to
live a healthy life.
Even if they are able to maintain a healthy lifestyle, their life
will be cut shorter by at least ten years. Because diabetes is a
chronic, incurable disease that affects nearly every part of the
body, contributes to other serious diseases, and can be life
threatening, it must be managed under the care of a physician
throughout a patient's life. In addition, there is an onslaught of
diabetes-related health risks: glaucoma, eye disease, loss of
eyesight, stomach nerve damage, kidney disease, weakened immune
system function, poor circulation leading to possible amputation,
increased risk of gum disease and stroke, high-blood pressure, heart
attack, etc.
By supporting T1DA’s
mission, you will be helping to alleviate these roadblocks.
The Type 1 Diabetes
Association (T1DA) is committed to making a difference now. Your
donation will not go to "fund research", but it will go to improving
the lives of those now living with Type 1 Diabetes.
By donating you will help the Type
1 Diabetes Association provide information, resources, and other
services to people with Type 1 diabetes, their families, health
professionals and the public.
