Mentorship Program

Belief #3: Everyone can be a source of education and empowerment

The T1DA mentorship program was created to bridge the gap between our less experienced T1DA members and those with more experience, who have achieved Type 1 diabetes management success.

Participation provides recently diagnosed Type 1 diabetics or those who just need a little extra help and guidance to be matched with another Type 1 diabetic in their area to learn about effective diabetes management.  Mentoring involves the sharing of information, knowledge, best practices, and just being there if questions arise or support is needed.

Although there are no age requirements for either role, generally it takes several years if not decades to gain proficiency in Type 1 diabetes management.  For this reason younger members will generally be matched with older, more experienced members.  However, even if the mentor and mentee are similar in age, helpful insights and encouragement can always be offered.

Mentor events are held in conjunction with the T1DA events on ad hoc basis. To participate as a mentor, request a mentor, or to learn more information about the Mentoring Program, contact T1DA at inquiry@t1da.org.
